• Growth Habit: Upright, vigorous, broad–oval crown with strong central leader
• Foliage: Deeply lobed, medium green leaves that turn brilliant orange-red to scarlet in autumn
• Flowers & Fruits: Sparse red flowers in early spring, followed by few or nearly seedless winged samaras
• Position: Full sun to part shade; develops best colour with plenty of sunlight
• Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils; tolerates clay and a range of pH
• Maintenance: Fast growing and low maintenance; prune in late summer if needed; mulch in dry conditions

Climate Suitability

Performs exceptionally well in cool–temperate to temperate Australia, including Ballarat, VIC, ACT, southern NSW, TAS, and similar regions with distinct seasons for best autumn color. Tolerates drought and clay once established.

Origin

A hybrid of red maple (Acer rubrum) and silver maple (Acer saccharinum), combining strong structure, showy colour, and adaptability. 'Jeffersred' was discovered by Glenn Jeffers in the 1960s in the USA.
