Banksia marginata – Silver Banksia
Banksia marginata – Silver Banksia
Banksia marginata, commonly known as Silver Banksia, is a versatile Australian native that grows as a large shrub or small tree. Its narrow green leaves have silvery undersides, adding subtle contrast and movement to the garden.
Pale yellow flower spikes appear through autumn and winter, providing nectar for native birds and other pollinators. Growing approximately 3–5 m high and 2–4 m wide, Silver Banksia is well suited to larger gardens, native plantings and wildlife-friendly landscapes.
Choose a sunny position in well-drained soil. Silver Banksia is naturally adapted to a range of conditions, including cooler climates, and is very frost hardy once established. Avoid high-phosphorus fertilisers.
At Navigators Nursery, a frost-hardy nursery near Ballarat, we carefully select plants suited to local growing conditions, including the cooler climate of Ballarat and surrounding areas.
