Banksia serrata - Saw/Old Man Banksia

Banksia serrata (Saw Banksia / Old Man Banksia) is a character-filled Australian native small to medium-sized tree with leathery, serrated leaves and large, creamy yellow to brown flower spikes in summer. The flowers are followed by fascinating woody pods, and the distinctively lumpy bark helped inspire May Gibbs' iconic 'Big Bad Banksia Men' — making this a plant with real storytelling charm.

An outstanding wildlife plant, Banksia serrata attracts nectar-loving birds and black cockatoos, which feed on the developing cones, as well as beneficial insects and pollinators.
