Cercis canadensis - Forest Pansy

Forest Pansy Redbud is a stunning deciduous tree renowned for its spectacular purple-burgundy foliage that emerges in spring and holds its rich colour throughout summer. In early spring, before the leaves appear, the bare branches are adorned with clusters of vibrant pink-purple pea-like flowers that create a breathtaking display.

This compact ornamental tree grows to approximately 4-6 metres tall with a similar spread, making it perfect for smaller gardens or as a feature specimen. The heart-shaped leaves provide excellent contrast in mixed plantings and turn golden-yellow in autumn before falling.

Forest Pansy thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it shows good drought tolerance and is frost-hardy, making it well-suited to cold climate gardens in the Ballarat region. Plant in a sheltered position for best results.
