Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) is a tall, graceful eucalyptus native to south-eastern Australia, including Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania. In the wild it can reach 30–50m, though garden specimens are typically more modest. It is one of the most ecologically important eucalypts in the region.

Bark & Foliage
The trunk displays rough, fibrous or box-type bark at the base, transitioning to smooth, white to cream or grey bark on the upper trunk and branches that is shed in long ribbons — a distinctive and attractive feature. Juvenile leaves are opposite and sessile; adult leaves are narrow-lanceolate and pendulous, giving the tree a graceful, weeping appearance.

Flowers & Wildlife Value
Clusters of small white flowers appear mainly in summer and autumn, providing an important nectar source for honeyeaters, lorikeets, and other nectar-feeding birds. The foliage is a primary food source for koalas across much of its range, and the tree supports a wide range of beneficial insects and pollinators.

Growing Conditions
Manna Gum thrives in full sun and is highly adaptable to a range of soils, including clay and poorly drained sites. It is very frost hardy, making it an excellent choice for cold-climate gardens in the Ballarat region and similar high-elevation areas. Once established, it is drought tolerant.

Dimensions
Height: 15–50m (garden specimens typically 15–25m) | Width: 8–15m
