Hydrangea ‘Magical Revolution Blue’ – Colour-Changing Hydrangea

Hydrangea ‘Magical Revolution Blue’ is a beautiful deciduous hydrangea that produces large, rounded flower heads that gradually change colour as they mature. The blooms open in soft green and develop through blue and purple tones, eventually taking on deeper, antique shades as the season progresses. The flowers are long lasting and make excellent cut flowers, both fresh and dried.

Growing to around 1 metre tall and 1 metre wide, ‘Magical Revolution Blue’ forms a compact, bushy plant that is ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and containers. Its relatively compact size makes it particularly useful for smaller gardens where its changing flower colours can be appreciated up close.

It prefers a partly shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil that remains consistently moist. Flower colour can be influenced by soil pH, with more acidic conditions generally encouraging blue and purple tones. Protect from hot afternoon sun and drying winds, particularly during summer. It is frost tolerant and well suited to the cool conditions experienced around Ballarat, though tender new growth benefits from protection against late frosts.
