Juniperus sargentii - Sargent Juniper

Juniperus sargentii, commonly known as Sargent Juniper, is a low-growing evergreen conifer with dense blue-green foliage and a spreading, gently creeping habit. Its fine, aromatic foliage provides year-round texture and colour.

Growing to approximately 30 cm tall and 2.5 metres wide, it forms a broad groundcover suited to banks, slopes and larger garden areas. It is particularly attractive softening rockeries or cascading over low walls and garden edges. Sargent Juniper is also valued as a bonsai subject, with foliage and branching that lend themselves to shaping.

Plant in a sunny position with well-drained soil. Water during establishment, and avoid waterlogged conditions. Hardy and frost tolerant, it is a useful choice for Ballarat’s cold-climate gardens, bringing evergreen structure to open, sunny positions.

At Navigators Nursery near Ballarat, Sargent Juniper offers a versatile option for spreading groundcover, year-round garden texture or developing your own bonsai.
