Malus domestica 'Pinkabelle' PBR – Dwarf Pink Lady Apple
Malus domestica 'Pinkabelle' PBR – Dwarf Pink Lady Apple
Malus domestica 'Pinkabelle' PBR (Dwarf Pink Lady Apple) is a naturally dwarfing deciduous apple tree producing full-sized, crisp and juicy apples. Attractive pink to red skin surrounds flesh with a sweet, tangy flavour similar to Pink Lady.
White to pale pink blossoms appear in spring, followed by fruit ripening in autumn, generally around April to May depending on local conditions. Growing approximately 2m tall and 1m wide, Pinkabelle brings a home-grown apple harvest within reach of small gardens, courtyards and large pots.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile, but crops more reliably with a compatible apple pollinator nearby, such as 'Leprechaun', 'Gala' or 'Granny Smith'. Flowering times need to overlap for effective cross-pollination.
Position and care: Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during dry weather, particularly when growing in a container. Use a large pot with good drainage and mulch garden-grown trees, keeping mulch clear of the trunk.
Mature size: approximately 2m high × 1m wide, depending on growing conditions and pruning.
Well suited to Ballarat's cold climate in a sunny, sheltered position. Protect spring blossom from late frosts, which can affect fruit set.
