Standard Manzanillo Olive

Olea europaea ‘Manzanillo’ is a popular olive variety with narrow, grey-green evergreen foliage and an attractive, branching structure. It can be grown as an ornamental feature tree or maintained as a productive olive, bearing oval fruit commonly used for table olives.

These standard-form plants have a clear trunk with a shaped canopy, making them ideal for framing an entrance, lining a driveway or adding structure to a courtyard. Left unpruned, ‘Manzanillo’ can eventually reach around 4–7m high and 3–6m wide, but regular pruning can keep it much smaller.

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Once established, olives tolerate dry conditions and are well suited to sunny positions. Frost hardy and well suited to Ballarat’s cold climate, ‘Manzanillo’ provides year-round structure and interest.
