Toona sinensis (Cedrela sinensis) – Chinese Toon Shade Tree

Toona sinensis, also known as Cedrela sinensis or Chinese Toon, is a beautiful deciduous tree with plenty of character. Fresh, coppery spring growth matures to attractive green foliage, followed by golden-yellow autumn colour before the leaves fall.

A fast-growing tree reaching approximately 10–15 m tall and 6–8 m wide, Chinese Toon is best suited to larger gardens with room to develop. Its open, graceful form provides useful summer shade while allowing winter sun through its bare branches.

Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil, allowing generous space for its mature canopy.

Hardy and well suited to cool climates, including Ballarat, Chinese Toon tolerates frost once established.

At Navigators Nursery, your frost-hardy nursery near Ballarat, we carefully select plants with our local conditions in mind. Chinese Toon is a wonderful choice for a fast-growing shade tree with beautiful seasonal changes and something a little different.
